We Amritites celebrated Swachh Bharath Abhiyan in connection with Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations at our school. Five days of service activities were conducted on September 28th, 29th, 30th and October 1st and 2nd.
“Clean and Green”- that is the dream we have for our country. The Amala Bharatam Campaign (ABC) envisioned by our beloved Amma is a campaign aimed at cleaning India’s public places and national highways. Through this cleanliness drive, Amma hopes to raise social awareness about humanity’s debt to Nature and our beautiful Mother Earth. As a small step towards this goal, students and teachers joined hands and conducted a seven phase programme. We went to Vadakkunnatha Temple Maidan near Naduvilal, Ayyanthole Ground area and Panchikkal Bus Stop area to spread awareness about waste disposal as well as segregating waste.
As the next phase, our students visited hospitals such as Mother Hospital and West Fort Hospital to spread awareness on personal hygiene, need for proper waste management and the health benefits of kitchen gardens. Our students also conducted awareness campaigns on the importance of rainwater harvesting and the use of solar power in homes to conserve our limited natural resources. Our school has been practicing this system for a long time, and this helped our students to clearly explain the details to the public. Our students also conducted a rally on the same day from the front of the Collectorate to the school spreading the message of “Green and Clean Earth”. Our tiny tots from the KG and Primary sections were also involved in this celebration by participating in school activities like painting, poster making, placard making, etc.
As a fitting conclusion to our Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations and the Swachhatha campaign, Br. Sreejeshji, together with teachers and students planted a Rudraksha sapling on our school premises as an initial step towards Amma’s vision of a greener Earth.
