As part of our ASTRO CLUB activities, we conducted a 3-day field trip to the Planetarium and ISRO on April 17, 18 and 19, 2023, hosted by AV Thiruvananthapuram.

On the morning of the 17th, two sessions were held by eminent scientists. The first one was on the topic, “How to make a change in the world” by Jaya G. Nair Ma’am, Scientist and Engineer at VSSC. The second session by Dr. Suresh Babu Sir, Scientist at VSSC was on the topic “Climate Change and Atmosphere”.

There were 3 sessions in the afternoon – an icebreaking session along with games and exploration by Sri Julius, Amrita Gurukulam, Amritapuri, a session by Sri Abraham P.J., Scientist and Engineer at ISRO, on the topic “Fuels, Rocket Propulsion, Satellites and Satellite Launching Vehicles, etc.”, and a third session by Dr. Anand Narayanan Sir, IIST, Thiruvananthapuram, on the topic “Different methods to find exoplanets”.

On the 18th, we had an online meeting with Dr. Harsha Blumer from Canada and then visited the Planetarium Gallery, 3D Theatre, The Science Park, Science on Sphere, Musical Fountain and Watching the Night Sky. On the 19th, we visited VSSC MUSEUM and ISRO.

Overall, the trip created an indelible impression on our minds, imparting much practical knowledge along with plentiful enjoyable experiences.
